Stab Controversy

Stab Magazine is making the news for the controversial cover on their new issue. It features a naked woman covered by her arms with the cover lines written on her… The controversy? She’s only 16. Her name is Ella Rose Corby from Queensland and she was the winner of a modeling competition Stab held recently. Stab writer Mike Jennings told the Tweed Daily, “They’re moving into womanhood and they know it. They dress older, sneak into clubs and are easily mistaken as adults. And as girls in their early twenties try and hang onto their teenage beauty, lines are blurred and we’re left confused. You can leer at the 16-year-old as you would an adult woman, so long as you’re ignorant … Once you become aware of their age you must look away.” Head over here for the article… What do you think?

Part of me feels that she has the right to do as she will with her own body, but a much bigger part of me wants to put a shirt on her and tell her to fuck trying to be desirable at 16 years old and just go surfing or skating or play video games or have fun with her mates. There’s nothing wrong with being that comfortable in your skin at 16 – but there’s everything wrong with using your skin to feel comfortable about yourself as a whole. At any age.

Wow, that quote is all kinds of wrong. ‘Leer at 16 year old’s as long as you’re ignorant’.  So what’s their excuse for running it? ‘We’re left confused’. If he’s talking about men, I’m not confused at all. She’s 16 and that’s just fucking weird to me, and down right funny when a 16 year old is trying to be sexy.

Kinda’ sends the wrong message to girls wanting to get into the water and actually surf. But I doubt the surf industry will care, they’re all still talking about Stab’s model parties and ‘style’ issues.

P.S. Ella Rose Corby? Could you have a more Queenslander name is you tried?

Ella Rose Corby, at age 16 is too young, in my opinion.

The whole surf industry is sexist as fuck with almost zero respect for women, so why the shock that this would happen? It’s just a bunch of bogans/westies patting each other on the back for selling neon boardshorts that everybody stopped wearing in the 90′s.  Now this. One day they’ll get with the program, but in the meantime 16-year old girls need to be smarter than this. Because how old is 15 really? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afaYTA2a4gA

Totally agree Matey. You go to any surf brand party and over half the chicks there are 16/17 and and are all over guy 3 times there age or its the older guys making moves on kids. Fucking gross. The picture isnt in my taste, but it represents the sport/industry very well.
