Owen Wright beats Kelly in NY, avenges his loss in Tahiti, wins world’s richest surf contest

We’ve been saying it for years. Owen Wright is gnarly.

Seriously. Did ANYONE think the Quiksilver Pro New York was going to be as good as it was? Did anyone dare even hope?

HOW GOOD WERE THE WAVES ON THE FINAL DAY?!?

HOW GOOD WAS KELLY’S ONE-MOVE 10 POINT WAVE?!?

AND JUST HOW GOOD WAS IT TO HAVE AN AUSSIE TAKE IT OUT?!?!?!!?

And that that Aussie was Owen Wright was the cream. This kid – and we can call him a kid. Dude’s 21, fer Chrissakes! – will be a world champion. Hopefully, he’ll be a champion many times over, and will still be contending a decade from now.

Check out the final on the rad webcast heat review thingo. Owen had Kelly comboed before the champ had even locked in a decent score. Like we said. Owen’s gnarly.
