Mac announced their new operating system last week, and aside from the shiny new features it was also the first in a while to move away from the big cat names. They are now moving to a series of names from around California, the first of which is the well known surf spot, Mavericks. An interesting choice giving the history of the spot and its reputation.

The former online editor for Surfer Mag, Chris Dixon, has written a piece for Bloomberg about the name and gave pioneering locals like Jeff Clark as well as the director of the Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards, Bill Sharp, a ring to get their thoughts on the name. You can read the full feature over here.
