South Korea Confirms 2018 Snowboard Venue

In only three short years we will be seeing the worlds best snowboarders compete at South Korea’s Bokwang Phoenix Park. It is located in the township of Bongpyeong-myeon, in the county of Pyeongchang. Apparently negotiations around the resort have been difficult but Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism, Kim Jong-deok has got it all sorted.

The resort looks like it has an impressive lighting setup and some big name hotels although reviews of the town suggest it’s pretty quiet. A lot will change with an event this bit coming in.

South Korea will spend US$13.5 billion on this games. Far short of the reported US$50 billion spent by Russia on getting Sochi up to scratch. The 2022 process is now down to a couple of countries after hosts have seen little to no local benefit of hosting the games, and the cost has gotten so far out of hand, causing many countries to withdraw.
