snowstock

The fine people over at the TTR World Tour, have uploaded some video highlights from Snowstock that took place last weekend. The event was won by Jamie Anderson and our friend Seb Toots. Apparently it was windy and slow for the big air, so not a bad effort that Toots, who would only weigh about 50kgs, was able to wrangle around a double cork back 1080. Robbie Walker took home fourth place with a flawless switch back 9. Check the video out here.

vbs

If you’re cool, you would know all about Vice Magazine, and its best mate, vbs.tv. What you may not know is that Vice is collaborating with Burton to produce a weekly episode not dissimilar to Epicly Later’d named ‘Powder and Rails’. It starts on Monday and I recommend that you tune in and check it out. The press release informs me that they will be talking to rulers like Damien Sanders so if you know what’s good for you, you better have have a look.

As quick as it happened, Guy Mariano and Eric Koston are no longer on the Neff skate team. Seems the prople over at Fourstar (of which Koston and Mariano are both part owners) deemed it a conflict of interest and they have subsequently left. A month is definitely not a long productive time. A few internet message boards are having a field day with the news. I love an internet flame war, start one here.

The only thing better than actors snowboarding, is snowboarders acting. That said, it’s worth heading over to the Ride website to check out the first Webisode promoting Rides Slimewall technology. Why does Mikey Leblanc love wearing a cop uniform? Also on the site are some pretty sweet videos involving ping-pong balls and freezers (it’s not what you think). I love science and technology.

Our mate Kyneee from the Forums, has alerted me to the fact that there was an avalanche over the weekend at Blue Lake that claimed a life. The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that a 22 year old man has died after trying to ski a cornice. There were apparently 2 other deaths in the Snowy Mountains over the weekend. All sadness aside, I think its epic that we have enough snow to even cause an avalanche. Apart from a Mt Buller legend that Tom Boulder was caught in an avalanche and survived, I have not heard of another case. Just remember people, be safe out there.

This is definitely one for the skateboard geeks out there. Whilst doing my usual perusing of the internet, I stumbled upon one of the most badass eBay auctions I have ever seen. Unfortunately the auction has long since finished, but Shitzkrieg was selling every single issue of Big Brother, nearly all the trimmings, plus an absolute grip of Blunt, Thrasher, and Transworld Skateboarding magazines. I can’t believe that the auction finished without a winning bidder. I can’t imagine what shipping to Australia would be for 200 magazines, but if it returns, I might be very poor, very soon.

Well, I guess it’s sort of a date. The Age is offering one lucky entrant (not gender specific) the chance to hang out with Dan ‘Dreamboat’ Himbrechts at Perisher Blue on the 5-7th of September. This coincides with the end of the Burton Australian Open, so guaranteed that you will get sneak peeks at the magic he has been making this winter. Currently Dan is in New Zealand hanging out of helicopters, then he will be at Stylewars, then Boost, then the Open. Can’t imagine much better than sorting through terabytes of photos over a shiraz with this cultured gentleman. You have to be in it to win it.

Ashbury Smokestack

Ashbury, who have been making moves as of late, just announced that their sunglasses range will be hitting Australian stores in the next few weeks. Included in this fine post is a few pictures of some styles that will cover your gross eyeballs this spring (if it ever stops snowing) and into summer. If you’re anything like Jan Snarski who parties hard, they might also be quite handy the morning after. Be at your shop with an open wallet soon. More pictures after the cut.
