On Wednesday I overheard a conversation with some people who were in charge of replacing the current Chelsea vert ramp with a new mini. Apparently the new ramp is stage one of an expansion and revamp of the local facilities. However what caught my attention was the fact that the new ramp to built wasn’t exactly a mini. Currently it’s set to be 9 foot high with 10 foot extensions and a roll-in. I was asked by the Chelsea Community Renewel team what I thought of this. It seems they’re not sure if it should be a little smaller.
I said I’d ask you guys to email them with your advice for the area. Be it about the ramp, or the state of skating in Chelsea. So if you live in the Chelsea area and want to make sure they build this ramp and park to your mighty expectations, shoot an email to this address Chelsea.communityrenewal@kingston.vic.gov.au In typical government fashion, they need feedback by Monday so get on this quick. If you can’t be bothered with an email, leave a comment below and I’ll tell ‘em to have a read.

It’s no secret I’m a fan of Holden. In fact the only three jumpers I’ve worn in the past two years have been Holden. So I was pretty stoked to see their new website. I don’t envy the kid that had to rebuild last years site, that thing was impressive. Still, this years effort is just as good. They even got bloggy with it. You know they’re doing good things when you actual care about a clothing companies blog.

That’s right, save the date! In case you missed the earlier annoucement, POP’s teamed up with TransWorld, K2, Billabong and distributor Lush to put on the Australian premiere of Robbie Walker’s breakout video, ‘These Days’. Like everything we do, it’s free and everyone’s invited. This is going to be the biggest premiere we’ve ever done. Robbie’s going to give away a complete outerwear and board setup and hang around for some question and answer time. This is all going down on the 26th of September (yeah, the Friday night of Grand Final Weekend) at the old National Theatre on Carlise St in St Kilda. So make sure you come down and cheer for Robbie, the kid’s earned it. Stay tuned for after party details.

So Issue 10 and the deluxe super collectors edition of “Two Weeks In…” come out this week. I ran out of room on the DVD for a few bonus things. One of them was this interview spot me and the guys did for FuelTV when we were up in Sydney for premiere. Thanks to Sej for making us feel like we had something interesting to say.

Today was the second day of the Burton Australian Open at Perisher. It was men’s and women’s halfpipe qualifications. Sage Kotsenburg qualified first with a solid run that started off with a frontside 900 melon into a backside 540 mute, followed by a frontside 720 indy, into a switch frontside 720 mute, finishing with a stylish melon to fakie. Australians Scotty James, Samuel Murphy and Charlie Steinbacher, in addition to Chris Sörman and Marko Grilc advance to Thursday’s semi-finals. They’ll be competing against invited riders Mason Aguirre, Danny Davis and Kevin Pearce, among other non-Burton riders.
Slopestyle is tomorrow. Read more for some photos and the rest of the results.

Well it was windy and flat light today, so the riders only hit the bottom gap jump. The lead swapped with Matts Kulisek in first and Charles Reid slipping to second. Matts was again throwing down all day with consistent backside rodeo nines and frontside 1080’s. Charles’ 1080’s, nines and smooth fives kept him in contention. The press release had a quote from Charles saying “Usually in a contest the guys who spin the most win, but I have been spinning some big three’s and seven’s and I was winning yesterday, so I think it’s a great comp - you don’t have to do a 1260 or something to win.” Yeah, just 1080’s, 900’s and 540’s… Brit Tyler Chorlton threw the most interesting trick of the day with a nollie front-flip nose grab but as you can see above, Quentin Robbins wasn’t far behind.

A guy at the Pizza restaurant, he was flipping on meeting Jeremy. So funny.
As I wrote earlier, some of the Burton international team are up at Falls Creek shooting for their new catalog. Including mega-star Jeremy Jones. Chris Boadle has been sending me some sneaky shots to keep you all informed. I’ve posted a few from days 4 and 5. There’s also some StyleWars shots in the mix too.

Day 1 is over. It’s StyleWars and I know you all want to know what’s going on. In short, after day one Charles Reid is on top with insane frontside 1080’s and massive 90-foot corked frontside 360’s. Matts Kulisek is in second with huge frontside 7 to backside 7 combinations among some super smooth 900s. Sitting in third is a very consistent Jacob Koia who had one of the most interesting lines of the day with a perfect 90 foot backside 900 melon followed by a method from the step-over kicker landing on the side of the landing 80-feet away, stomping a method perfectly amongst the rubble and grooming debris.
So read more for a bunch of photos form today as well as the full press release.
