joy-division-zune-hands-on-top

Remember a while back we posted about that limited edition Joy Division/Peter Saville Zune? ‘Yeah, but what’s a Zune?” It’s a MP3 player kinda like the iPod but that’s not important right now. Well anyway Engadget have posted photos of a prototype and even some of the packaging. It looks like Microsoft got it pretty good. Now, how can a lowly fan like myself get one of these?

future_snowboarding_head1

Earlier this month, we reported about Future Snowboading Magazine getting the chop. Much like the breaking of the news itself, I have been informed by a reliable source that the magazine may not be six feet deep just yet. FSM was dumped by its parent company for reasons cited as financial. After viewing some of the stats, FSM is rumored to have some keen suitors having a good look at reviving the fledgling magazine. The messages being left over at Transworld Business are getting pretty heated, so don’t be surprised if it’s not the last time you hear of FSM. Stay tuned.

Well not really… But who cares about deer anyway? This clip isn’t exactly new but i thought it might interest some of you guys and girls. Good to see Travis Pastrana doing his bit for the environment. DC have been into motor sports for a while now, and we have already seen some pretty interesting things. I’m not an environmental expert by any means, but I am blaming our current lack of snow on Ken Block and Travis Pastrana. The least they could do is really step it up a notch, if your going to get serious, do it properly.

*WARNING - LINKS MOST LIKELY NSFW*

In sad news, amazingly hilarious and controversial comedian George Carlin passed away this week of heart failure at the age of 71. Carlin had a long rich life in comedy and was once subjected to U.S. Supreme Court decision regarding his vulgarity. Always topping greatest stand up lists, Carlin was truly an amazing comedian, his influence was as far reaching as his popularity. His link to POP and what we do here? One of his jokes inspired an early CKY stunt. That has something to do with skateboarding, kind of. And I thrive on vulgarity, his rendition of ‘the aristocrats’ was amazing. Unfortunately i couldn’t find a link to it, so you will have to settle for the South Park version.

Gone but not forgotten.

deathcab-008

Death Cab are coming to Australia soon, but I got to see them play last night in Los Angeles. I have posted about it in the forum’s over here if you want to have a read. It’s worth checking out if you’re a fan (and there are no spoilers if you’re that keen).

skatecoverage_head

If you can remember way back to… well, I can’t remember. But we used to do an article in the mag called ‘Where You At?’ which was a little annalysis of the media rankings for skaters and snowboarders in Australia. This was modeled off the Exposure Meter done by Transworld… now there’s a new guy on the scene. SkateCoverage.com is aparently a far more detailed version of the Exposure Meter. So, why would someone want this kind of information? Well, companies use it to guage their team spend - if a team rider is getting all advertising exposure, then they aren’t great value. If they’re getting a lot of editorial coverage, then they’re worth a few coins. Anyway, you can’t access the actual stats without some kind of subscription - I got the above screen shot from Skatebook. If you’re interested, click through here for a little more info.

I found this on the friendly Ashbury blog. It’s a interesting editorial peice on advertising and design in the new current season’s snow products and how that effects the consumer. If that sounds a bit boring for you then at least it has a little discription about how the above ad was made and Mark Welsh talks about the photo. I for one was excited to see the artwork for Kooley’s board after the way he talked about it in issue 9. I somehow hadn’t seen it before. Oh and yes, I’m aware this looks like an ad for an ad.

Earlier this month Dragon severed its ties with Oakley and their super-mega parent company, worlds largest optics manufacturer, Luxottica. Up until 2006, Dragon was in a private partnership with Oakley when it was purchased by Luxottica for mad money. Dragon hopes the move will allow them to focus more on the core aspects of surf/skate/snow which is where it all began for them. Dragon have some awesome things happening in Australia this year, and with the sneak peek of their new goggle frame here, things are looking up.
