The Rob Blog
Hey Guys! I just got home from the Forum Battle @ Baw Baw. I always love heading to Baw Baw for this comp, the drive is mellow, the course always has a great set up and the people running the comp are awesome. Pressure was on to back up last years win. I had a good day, got my tricks and didn’t fall too many times and was lucky to walk away with the win. Not only did I get some cash… $1000 in $5 dollar bills (I felt like the richest man alive) but we got this sweet trophy, it’s an ammunition case that they used in the army. My good mate Benny had a rad architectural idea – to later use it as a toilet paper holder! Thanks to Forum and Baw Baw for putting on another great event. I look forward to coming back next year!
Just got a call from Billabong asking me to fly up to Byron for another winter street wear shoot. I did a shoot with them two years ago in Bali which was rad, the shot above is taken from that catalog, but I admit I’m glad this one will be in NSW. Wearing jackets and beanies in Bali was pretty tough. I’ll let you guys know how it goes.
Anyone who knows me well knows how difficult I am when ordering a latte at Starbucks, because they just can’t get it right. I just came across this link and thought it was pretty funny.
It might as well be the Seb blog. I just finished the first contest of the year and it was also Seb’s first trip to the snow. I felt like an old man today, sore as sore after another Cattlemans’s Rail Jam. I finished in 2nd and was happy with the result. It was great to see all my mates again who I haven’t seen for months, it was a fun weekend.
We just finished up the last day of Kids Can Ride! We started the day pretty tired from a long day of riding yesterday, but we were all excited about our amazing buffet breakfast at the Chalet Hotel. We put on all our layers and headed down the hill to fuel up for a day of shredding. We rode the park until we were freezing, the kids were amazing and not once did they complain about the cold. After going in for a mocha to warm up, my mate Stu from the Buller Park took us all out for a snowmobile ride. Then after a few more runs of the park, we had a quick lunch at Wokworx because we had to make the most of our last day.
After lunch, despite the freezing conditions, we went back out to shred the park where we met up with Kit who took a bunch of photos of the kids riding. The shots were rad and the kids were killing it. I had a great couple days with the kids, they were all great. They all improved so much in just two days, it blew me away. I’m really looking forward to doing it again next year! A huge thanks to Rhylla, Mt Buller, Tom Richo, Billabong, K2, Uncle pats, Black Cockatoo, Wokworx, Billy the Kid, Rob Stagg, Ballistyx, Australian New Zealand Snowboarder, Pop, Kit, Stu and Alice for helping put it all together.
Hey Guys! Just wanted to shoot through an update on our first Kids Can Ride trip. This morning we woke up early and headed down to the Chalet Hotel for an amazing buffet breakfast. After a huge feast of eggs, bacon and all the trimmings, the kids and I were all keen to start shredding. Thanks to my buddy Tom Richardson for helping out, we all had a fun morning doing laps of Bourke Street and hitting the park.
Despite the freezing weather, the kids were awesome and impressed me with their skills, determination and endurance. Our main focus was the terrain park, where the boys sessioned the boxes and the jumps. I was so impressed with how much they all improved – and in just one morning! Am so excited to see what’s in store for tomorrow.
With our legs aching and a couple of bruises to our pride, we made our way in for a hot chocolate to warm up. We met up with Rhylla who had arranged a photo shoot for the kids – where they certainly would have made their parents proud!
After a few more runs we rode down to the bottom of BB1 to Wok Works where the boys hooked us up with a delicious box of noodles each. It was a great way to re fuel for another couple of hours riding this afternoon.
Even though it was below zero the kids were keen to get in a few more hours of shredding before the lifts closed. After dumping our gear back at the hotel, the kids and I played some pool at the Kooroora Hotel. Then for dinner we were treated to yet another rad meal of pizza and pasta at Uncle Pats.
I’m sure we’ll all have an early night tonight to make the most of our final day of Kids Can Ride tomorrow!
With a lot of help from Rhylla at Mt Buller, my gorgeous girlfriend Alice and Geoff Walker from Mansfield Secondary College, the first Kids Can Ride trip has begun. I started Kids Can Ride because I wanted to snowboard with kids who love snowboarding. I also wanted to give kids who have never been snowboarding the opportunity to try it and hopefully they too will fall in love with the sport.
After an easy three hour car trip we arrived at Mt Buller earlier this afternoon, opened our Billabong packages then headed down to the K2 rental store to hire the kids gear. After that we grabbed some pizza from Uncle Pats, then a movie at the Mt Buller Cinema and now we’re resting up for a big day shredding tomorrow. I’ll be back tomorrow with an update on the first day shredding with Kids Can Ride.
Hey Guys! The new issue of Snowboarder is out on Wednesday June 16th and I scored the cover. The shot was taken with the help of Mike Yoshida – wasn’t easy to do. I was holding the camera and a remote which Yoshida fired. A dozen shots of heads, boards and snow before I got it right. Stoked! Hope you all like it!
