future_snowboarding_head1

Earlier this month, we reported about Future Snowboading Magazine getting the chop. Much like the breaking of the news itself, I have been informed by a reliable source that the magazine may not be six feet deep just yet. FSM was dumped by its parent company for reasons cited as financial. After viewing some of the stats, FSM is rumored to have some keen suitors having a good look at reviving the fledgling magazine. The messages being left over at Transworld Business are getting pretty heated, so don’t be surprised if it’s not the last time you hear of FSM. Stay tuned.

I found this on the friendly Ashbury blog. It’s a interesting editorial peice on advertising and design in the new current season’s snow products and how that effects the consumer. If that sounds a bit boring for you then at least it has a little discription about how the above ad was made and Mark Welsh talks about the photo. I for one was excited to see the artwork for Kooley’s board after the way he talked about it in issue 9. I somehow hadn’t seen it before. Oh and yes, I’m aware this looks like an ad for an ad.

The Sugar Shack crew out of Canada have just released the teaser for their new film ‘Pleasure Inc’. These guys have been making banger films for a while now with previous projects like ‘Bandwagon’ and ‘Try This at Home’. For some reason, they seem to sneak under the radar in the scheme of things despite having a list of riders as heavy hitting as their bag of hammers. This year they appear to have stepped into the digital revolution with some HD 16:9 action, and the epic choice of music only adds the mood.

Trailer added below the cut.

300-the_maloof_money_cup_course

A little while ago we showed you a little clip about the Maloof Money Cup. Put on by the Mega-Rich Maloof Brothers, learning to tear the living daylights out of this course could pocket you 450,000 bones. It’s a pretty interesting course mixing a street plaza and massive vert setup. Not sure what the fountain is for, but for $450,000 I’ll swim in it full of piranhas with pelicans strapped to my legs. So in order to avoid a life of crime, know this course.

Most of you would have already seen this trailer for the new Runway Films production ‘See What I See’. I wanted to post it because I’ve just heard from one-time POP intern and all-around ruler Jan Snarski. Jan has spent the season filming for Runway (as well as nurmours other production companies) and tells me that 65% of this trailer was shot by him. If anyone reading this is thinking about being a professional snowboard filmer for US/Canadian films, then Jan’s proof that with a bit of motivation, a good sense of humour and some courage, it’s possible. Jan, from everyone at POP, we’re stoked it’s worked out so good for you.

The POP edition of ‘Two Weeks In…’ will also include Bonus Features, Commentary, and maybe even a special edit. You will have to wait and see.

The associated press are reporting on an Australian woman named Laura McKenzie who has just finished a stint in an American detention center after she over stayed her tourist visa on the tail end of a Canadian winter. If you’re interested (and ever plan on going to the States or Canada) read on.

snowpark-05-159

Just so we (Southern Hemispherians) are all in the same boat, Snow Park NZ has had to postpone the proposed opening of the season due to lack of snow and ‘unseasonal’ weather. It was set to open tomorrow (June 18th), but has now been put on hold indefinitely. I would have said crap weather, but it has obviously been glorious outside.
