You might remember hearing that when Tony Abbott offered up a surf lesson at a charity auction last year, those crafty cats at Get Up! conspired to get him into the water with a geniune refugee from Afghanistan. Not only that, a refugee who had been locked up in mandatory detention.

It was frankly inspired work from Get Up – what could be better than putting Big Tony face to face with the sort of person he didn’t want to see the human face of?

Well, one year later Tony made good on his promise, and after the lesson, Swellnet grabbed an interview with Riz Wakil, the refugee who escaped central Afghanistan 12 years ago.
