A few weeks back, Dragon had their Indonesian and New Zealand advertising shoot with Oney Anwar and Rangi Ormond. The guys shot a quick clip of what happened – I can’t wait to see what the final shots look like… I’m not sure what effect that kind of work with the flash will have. Globe have a habit of spending a lot of cash on surf movies, then not really reaping the reward. We’re tipping Year Zero will change that.

The Torquay Pub was packed to the rafters last night, quite litterally at times with the general plebs inside, and the Rip Curl Pro closing party outside. Almost a party-off, everyone was wondering who was at the better party.

Julius Kellar lugged his camera down to Torquay for us last weekend to get us a different look at the Bells comp – basically we asked if he could swing the lens away from the water and shoot some happenings on and around the beach. Here’s a few rad photos of what was going on…

Good waves for Bells is always a win for pro surfing, so call it karma or call it luck, but the 50th anniversary of Bells was blessed.

Joel Parkinson rings the bell infront of the biggest biggest Rip Curl Pro crowd in 50 years of competition after scoring a perfect 10 on the last wave of the competition to end an incredibly intense final.

Today Sally (AUS) was at the pinnacle of her career, winning her first ASP Women’s World Title event, after she managed to beat ASP Women’s World No. 1 Carissa Moore (HAW), sewing it up in the last couple of minutes, and riding right onto the beach fists in the air.

Sally Fitzgibbons, the young upstart from the NSW South Coast, has put her stamp all over Bells with her first big win in great surf against fellow new schooler Carissa Moore.

It validated everyones claims that the swell was big, and with that, kicked everyone off the beach as it was declared “too dangerous”. Not too dangerous for the surfers, but all the same they were pushing it right to the boundary with the last sections of their precious waves, taking them precariously close to the rocks.

Round One and Two have been run and won in some mighty tasty waves.

The Rip Curl Pro is underway today at bumpy but solid Bells.

Nike 6.0 have released the teaser for the new girls surf film, Leave A Message. This looks like it’s going to be one pretty damn good film. Not only is the surfing incredible, but the girls don’t look too bad either! The full film will be available for download on May 24th and features Carissa Moore, Lakey …

They’re all in town. Torquay was once again filled with the worlds best surfers for the 2011, 50th anniversary Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach in Torquay.

Billabong have got a comp up on their site at the moment around their Design For Humanity program. You can win a trip to LA and all you have to do is drop your best pickup line to the site over here. And for fans of internet humor, here’s some guys getting numbers using meme’s. Pretty funny.

We know Julian Wilson rips, but let’s take a moment to tip the hat to surfers for getting on the lein program. For the past year or two the stalefish has been the grab to master for the hot new crew. Stalefishes are tricky as hell in the surf, and even trickier to make with style. Leins, on the other hand, have style for days.

This hasn’t been shouted from the rooftops, but celebrating 50 years at Bells, Rip Curl are holding a reunion for anyone that’s ever competed in, officiated, worked at, or just come to watch the Rip Curl Pro.

It’s now only 7 days until the 50th Rip Curl Pro gets underway at Bells Beach. I went by yesterday to have a look at how things were shaping up, and the place is looking ready for the best of the surfing world to arrive.

Rip Curl spent a big chunk of last year sending surfers and photographers on a project they dubbed Tip-2-Tip. An exploration by boat along the entire Indonesian archipelago. A fair bit of footage and images has already been released, but these endless, PERFECT lefts were something they’ve been keeping close to their chests … until now.

Neff has signed Evan Geiselman to the surf team – He joins Kolohe Andino and DIon Agius in riding for the brand. The guys released a clip to welcome him to the team – check it out!

This is just a quick note to let you know that Occy will be appearing on the new season of Dancing With The Stars. I am lost with where to go with this… So I’ll move onto the fact that Dion Agius is competing in this years Cleo Bachelor of the Year – laughs to be had over here.
